# YouTube Money Calculator

1,973 views a day on YouTube long-form in general interest / vlog pays roughly $120 to $420 a month from platform ad revenue.

## Method

1. Baseline YouTube long-form RPM for General interest / vlog with a US audience: $2 to $7 per 1,000 views.
2. Daily: 1,973 views / 1,000 x RPM = $3.95 to $14.
3. Month: daily x 30.42 days = $120 to $420. Year: daily x 365 = $1,440 to $5,040.
4. A year is 365 days, not 12 x 30. Using 360 understates every annual figure by about 1.4%.

## Questions

### How much does YouTube pay per view?

There is no per-view rate. YouTube pays per 1,000 views, and the figure is called RPM. Across niches the realistic band is about $1 to $40 per 1,000 views for a US audience, which works out to roughly $0.001 to $0.04 per single view. Niche and audience geography move that number far more than subscriber count does.

### What is the difference between RPM and CPM on YouTube?

CPM is what an advertiser pays for 1,000 ad impressions, before YouTube takes its share. RPM is what lands in your account per 1,000 video views, after the split and after unmonetised views are counted in. RPM is always the lower number and it is the only one that matters for your income. If a calculator asks you for CPM and does not then apply the 55% creator share, it will overstate your earnings by roughly double.

### How much is 1 million views worth on YouTube?

At a US audience, 1 million long-form views pays roughly $1,000 to $5,000 in general-interest content and $8,000 to $40,000 in finance. The same million Shorts views pays roughly $10 to $250. The gap between those two is the single biggest thing creators underestimate.

### How much do YouTube Shorts pay per 1,000 views?

Roughly $0.01 to $0.25 per 1,000 views depending on niche and audience country, which is one to two orders of magnitude below long-form. Shorts revenue is pooled rather than attributed to your video: ad money across the Shorts feed goes into a pool, your share is set by your portion of eligible views, and you receive 45% of that allocation. Licensed music routes roughly half of it to rights holders first.

### What is the YouTube revenue split?

On long-form ad revenue the creator receives 55% and YouTube keeps 45%. On Shorts the creator receives 45% of their pool allocation. The RPM figure in YouTube Studio is already net of this, so you should never apply the split a second time to an RPM you read there.

### What are the YouTube monetization requirements?

The YouTube Partner Program requires 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 valid public watch hours in 12 months or 10 million valid public Shorts views in 90 days, an AdSense account, and no active Community Guidelines strikes. Check the current thresholds in YouTube Studio, as Google has adjusted them more than once.

### Does Instagram pay per view for Reels?

No. Instagram runs no general ad revenue share on Reels. Creators earn through invite-only bonuses, Stars and gifts, brand partnerships and commerce, none of which pay a predictable amount per view. Any calculator that returns an Instagram per-view figure is estimating sponsorship pricing, not a platform payout.

### How much does Facebook pay per 1,000 views?

Facebook now pays through the Content Monetization Program, which replaced In-Stream Ads, Ads on Reels and the Performance Bonus on 31 August 2025. Reported RPM sits between about $0.40 and $20 per 1,000 qualified views depending on niche and country. The catch is that only roughly 30% to 50% of total views qualify, so your effective rate on total views is well below the headline figure.

### Why do YouTube earnings calculators disagree with each other?

Because most of them multiply views by an unsourced RPM band and stop. The common errors are an undated RPM figure, no split between niche and audience geography, applying the 45% platform cut to an RPM that already had it applied, and using a 360-day year. This page publishes the band, the date it was read, the multiplier and the arithmetic so you can check each step.
